Beth.gif

Beth Egan is the 1st RD Member Spotlight for January 2010.  She is the Clinical Coordinator of the Dietetic Internship; she's been doing this since the position was created about 7 years ago.  Her primary responsibilities are to find clinical, community, and management sites for 12 dietetic interns so they can meet the 1200 hours of supervised practice required by the Commission for Accreditation of Dietetics Education (think JCAHO ) to be eligible to take the registration exam.   She also needs to make sure that the activities they engage in during rotations fulfill the competency outcomes required by CADE - and of course deal with all the concomitant paperwork that goes with that. In addition she teaches classes related to the clinical aspects of dietetics, pharmacology, and internship class.  She trys to prepare them for their rotations more so than teach in depth on topics they will never use (that the few graduate texts are peppered with).  In other words, she trys to be practical.  To that end, Beth welcomes input from local dietitians -whether they are preceptors or not.  A lot of students are the furthest away from home they have ever been in their life and so Beth trys to watch over them, make sure they are ok, give them someone to talk to and a shoulder to cry on.  Beth loves her interns and she hopes she has helped them on their path to a successful career and life.

MDDA would like to spotlight RD's and DTR's who are making a valuable contribution to the field.

Do you know of an RD or DTR who deserves recognition? It could be someone who does outstanding work in the community, is politically active, or someone that goes beyond the call of duty in their workplace. It could be you!
