Empowering members to be the nation's food and nutrition experts.

Happy Summer!

I can't believe the Summer is here. Many of you are preparing for summer with your families, graduations or even just a time to relax. Don't forget to make nutrition part of your summer activities. June is WELLNESS MONTH and we should be spreading the news. We, as the board, have enjoyed serving you this past year and have had many opportunities as an RD to get involved. We had wine tasting, a trip to the zoo nutrition program, update on EMR, and of course, our holiday social. I hope you will continue to make MDDA a part of your activities for next year and thank you for being involved with your local dietetic association and community.

On Friday, July 30, 5 to 8 p.m., and Saturday, July 31, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Consortium for Health Education, Economic Empowerment and Research (CHEER) will host a free conference titled Health in the City: A Fresh Take on Food

The meetings will address new ways to access healthy, affordable food that can improve well-being and reduce hunger in Memphis.  CHEER is a center for health disparities research at UT Health Science Center.  The conference will be held at the G. E. Patterson Family Life and Youth Center, 547 Mississippi Blvd.

Health in the City is designed for health care professionals, neighborhood groups, community organizations, policy-makers, churches and all interested citizens, and includes a cooking demonstration by Memphis native, Bryant Terry, nationally recognized chef, author and food justice activist.

There is no charge to attend the two-day meeting, but registration is required.  Interested parties need to register no later than Wednesday, July 28, by calling Brandi Franklin, CHEER project manager, at (901) 448-1982 or by e-mailing her at beveret4@uthsc.edu.       (7/21)

MIFA Campaign Launched
MIFA recently unveiled its new public awareness campaign Something Good in Memphis!

The campaign is designed to celebrate individuals who have a positive impact in our community but whose achievements and selfless acts often go unnoticed.

You can help them launch this exciting campaign in two fun, easy ways!

NOMINATE FRIENDS, NEIGHBORS, COLLEAGUES

This interactive campaign relies on nominations. We invite you to nominate those you know whose daily efforts or remarkable deeds embody the spirit of positive action in this community. Submit your nominations via a simple form on the campaign’s website,
www.SomethingGoodinMemphis.org.

SPREAD THE WORD!

Invite everyone you know to participate! Send this link
www.SomethingGoodinMemphis.org to as many people as possible along with a personal note encouraging them to get involved.

They need your nominations today to kick off the campaign! Your participation is important to them -- and it will only take a few minutes of your time.

Many thanks for helping MIFA continue to be an alliance of good in our community.
